With the fall season comes pumpkins and the search for a delectable holiday dessert. If you are looking for holiday cannabis edibles for you or your guests to enjoy this Thanksgiving, you must try the seasonal favorite Sweet Grass Pumpkin Pie!
Keep reading to learn why Colorado cannabis consumers and patients love Sweet Grass Pumpkin Pie, what to expect and a brief history of the baked dessert. Speaking of history, Sweet Grass has been making this perfect cannabis fall treat for a decade of decadence!
Pumpkins have deep roots in our culinary history. We know that they were cultivated in Central America around 5500 BC and were mentioned in Europe in the 1500s. They were grown in England and called ‘pompions’ after the french ‘pompon’ in reference to their round form.
It’s known that when the first American pilgrims arrived in the New World in 1620 they were given pumpkins by the Wampanoag Native American Indians. The natives helped the pilgrims survive their first year at Plymouth Colony in New England during which they had a harvest celebration that likely included a version of pumpkin pie.
The earliest versions of pumpkin pie by early American settlers were hollowed-out pumpkins filled with pumpkin, honey, milk, and spices and baked over a fire. A French cookbook in 1653 had a ‘Tourte of Pumpkin’ recipe that included boiled pumpkin in milk, sugar, butter, and then baked in a pastry shell. A 1670 recipe by an American woman included pumpkin and apples baked in a pie with rosemary, jam, and thyme.
Current day traditional Pumpkin Pie recipe ingredients include a pastry pie crust, sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, eggs, pureed pumpkin, evaporated milk. And of course the optional whipped cream topping.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Sweet Grass making cannabis edible pumpkin pies much to the delight of our customers. They are arguably the most eagerly anticipated seasonal edible in Colorado.
Sweet Grass’s signature Pumpkin Pies are released in limited runs every November. These mini fall treats are made with an infused shortbread crust and baked to perfection with a traditional pumpkin custard filling. The ingredients in our recipe include:
Sweet Grass Pumpkin Pies contain wheat, milk, eggs, and soy and are made in a facility that processes peanuts and pecans.
Sweet Grass offers both recreational and medical marijuana edible pies. The shortbread crust is the only part of the pie that is infused with Sweet Grass Cannabutter. Our recreational Pumpkin Pies have 10mg of THC in each and our medical Pumpkin Pies contain 75mg THC in each.
If you have never tried Sweet Grass Pumpkin Pie cannabis edibles here’s what you can expect. First, if you’ve had pumpkin pie before you can expect the same great creamy, sweet, and spiced taste of the traditional baked treat but with a subtle Cannabutter flavor. We make our own Cannabutter so you know it’s consistent and perfectly dosed.
The effects of these marijuana edibles have been described as relaxing with a full-body high that lasts. They usually do not kick in for about 1-2 hours after you eat them and can last up to 6 hours or more. The THC in the Cannabutter is processed by the liver which turns it into 11-hydroxy-THC, a more potent cannabinoid with slightly stronger and longer-lasting effects than THC. So if you need to relax from the stress of the holidays, our Pumpkin Pies will help give you that relief!
